The First Harvest Farm Management, LLC Competitive Seed Comparison Plot benefited from another .2″ inch rainfall on Tuesday afternoon and evening, May 15. Unfortunately, the rainfall totals were quite variable for the area with some locations north of Pittsfield receiving nearly 2″, and Western Pike County also received over an inch of rain. The rainfall total at the plot was on the lighter side, but all the same, a very nice rainfall and much welcomed. As you can see from the attached photos, the corn is now getting close to V-2 Stage, or 2 leaf collars emerged and identifiable. From now on through the next several weeks, look for rapid growth development and deep green color as the individual plants begin Nitrogen uptake and move towards tassel stage.
