Plot update 5/11/2018
I walked the plot with Joe on Friday afternoon. Everything is off to a great start! The growth stage of the plot is late VE to early V1. Some hybrids are starting to show a visible color and early vigor difference compared to others. The various plant populations will be interesting to watch as the season progresses.
We did observe the occasional distressed plant. Cutworm was deemed the culprit. At this point we don’t believe the plot will be impacted by the insects presence. It would be a good idea to scout your own fields, especially the ones that had winter annuals early, to see what insect pressure is present.
